General Introduction

The aim of the Department of Economics is to equip its students with a solid theoretical background and to provide them with the ability to understand current economic events and phenomena, comprehend economic problems and seek and find solutions to them. For this purpose, courses related to economic theory, economic policy, economic history and international economics are given at undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, courses such as statistics, econometrics and mathematical economics are also included in the program catalogs to help students acquire analysis skills. Our department continues education as two programs, English and Turkish, starting from the 2021-2022 academic year. In the English program, students receive English foreign language preparatory education in the first year and take courses in English in the following years. In the Turkish program, all courses are given in Turkish. Our department has offered a master's degree program with thesis since 2001 and a doctoral program since 2009. In addition, there is also the opportunity to complete a master's degree through distance education in the "distance education non-thesis master's program" in our department. Admission Conditions
For Turkish Students:

Admission to this program is conducted through a centralized exam system called the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), as determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) within the framework of regulations set by the institution. After students declare their preferences for the programs they wish to study, they are placed into relevant programs by the Assessment, Selection, and Placement Center based on their scores in this exam.

For Foreign National Students:

Foreign national students are admitted to this program based on internationally recognized exam results such as the SAT I, ACT, GCE, etc., or by obtaining valid scores from the Foreign National Student Exam conducted by our university or other universities in Turkey, according to the relevant guidelines.

For Exchange Programs

The admission of exchange students is carried out within the framework of bilateral agreements signed between ZBEÜ and partner universities (Erasmus, Farabi, Mevlana, or General Academic Protocol).

For Special Students

Special students can enroll in the courses offered in this program upon approval from the relevant academic unit. Since the language of instruction in the English program is English, students must also document their English language proficiency in order to enroll in courses.

To obtain a bachelor's degree, students must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses (totaling 240 ECTS credits) in the program and have a minimum weighted grade point average of 2.0 out of 4.00.

Employment Opportunities for Graduates

The field of employment for graduates of the Economics department is quite broad. In this context, graduates of the department can find jobs for themselves in many sectors, with different titles in different fields both in Turkey and around the world.

The finance sector is the first area that comes to mind for economics graduates to work in. In the finance sector, which includes both public and private banks, there is a need for economics graduates in almost every position from teller to inspector. Additionally, graduates who succeed in financial advisor exams can open their own offices with a Certified Public Accountant certificate.

Our graduates have opportunities to work both in the private sector and in the public sector. They can take on roles such as manager, economist, analyst, researcher, etc. in national and international private sector organizations. Marketing, finance, and accounting departments are particularly preferred areas for economics graduates. In addition, economics graduates can take up positions such as specialist, inspector, etc. in public institutions such as the Central Bank, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, the Turkish Statistical Institute, KOSGEB, etc., if they pass the exams.

Economics department graduates with a very advanced level of foreign language proficiency can also be employed in international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union, the IMF, the World Bank, etc. Academic career is also an important alternative for graduates' career paths.

Students who receive one of the following letter grades for a course - AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC - are considered to have passed that course. DC and DD grades are conditional passing grades.
